Illinois Eye Institute & EMRlogic Team Up to Launch National Clinical Outcomes & Connected Care Project for Optometry

Chicago, IL– March 27, 2009.   Responding to President Obama’s stimulus bill and its demand for “comparative effectiveness research”, targeted at determining best practices for an interoperable health care system, the Illinois Eye Institute is launching a first-ever national communications program for eye care.

“We are excited to get under way with this urgently important project for Optometry and have invited the assistance of EMRlogic Systems to carry it out,” said Leonard V. Messner, O.D., Illinois College of Optometry Vice President for Patient Care Services and Executive Director of the Illinois Eye Institute. “It is clear, given the expertise of its people, such as Dr. Grue, and the advanced communications and clinical decision support capabilities within the OD Professional software, that this company understands the future of health care in our country.  The relationship with InterSystems assures us of a health IT platform that goes beyond eye care, which is what interoperability requires.  We are inviting the participation of a consortium of optometry schools as well as the broadest possible spectrum of eye care providers from across the industry.”

“This project will offer a national connected-care model that shows how optometrists can participate in an outcomes-based delivery system, a model that provides a forum to discuss and test issues critical to the future of optometry,” added James Grue, O.D., EMRlogic Vice President of Connected Care and Clinical Outcomes.  “The project will also launch an ActiveCE model to more efficiently provide education on the many aspects of optometric best practices with emphasis on how to obtain best clinical outcomes.”
